In Episode 06, we set out in search of the secret recipe for the original Transylvanian chimney cake. Our journey takes us to a small bakery in Wolkendorf (Vulcan) in the Burzenland region. Here, Vasilica and Krista still bake the traditional way – over an open fire and according to an old family recipe, just as it was done a hundred years ago. There are no kitchen machines and no automatic rotating spits. Each chimney cake is made entirely by hand. When more than 300 guests are expected for the reopening of the renovated fortified church, Holger lends a hand. And it’s not only the flames of the wood-fired oven that make him sweat. But the effort is worth it. He not only learns step by step how the authentic Saxon chimney cake is made, but also discovers what makes its ingredients so special.
