Space Age Bachelor Man | Ride The Cyclone Animatic

Thank you one and all for the support on each and every RTC animatic. Tonight, I bring you Space Age Bachelor Man, meaning we are over halfway done. This series has eight planned total animatics, leaving us with three more to go before completion. I cannot express how excited I am to get these three remaining ones out. This one was definitely one I struggled a bit more completing. Towing the line between something that stays true to the spirit of the song, makes sense within the context of previous animatics, all the while not pushing too far with the topic (because, well, have you heard the song) is always a bit of a challenge, and this one really cemented that. However, I hope I was able to do this song justice, and that you all enjoyed watching. It wouldn’t be right to post this without acknowledging that although I depict my Ricky with mobility aids throughout the entirety of the musical, that isn’t the case in official productions of the musical. Despite the eleven year long run (2011 to present of documented official productions), only one disabled actor has ever played Ricky Potts: Yannick-Robin Eike Mirko (they/he). This actor has been fired because of their disability, and subsequently replaced with an able-bodied actor, both in the final days of the Mccarter run, and an upcoming production with Arena Stage that features multiple Mccarter actors reprising their roles. This is beyond repulsive, and not something that should even be happening. Disabled characters should be played by disabled actors.
