Lesson 155 I Will Give Way and Let Him Lead Me. A Course in Miracles. 1. There is a way of living in the world that is not here, though it seems to be. You do not change your appearance, but you smile more often. Your brow is serene; your gaze is calm. And those who walk the world as you do recognize their own. But those who have not yet perceived the way will also recognize you, and believe that you are like them, as you once were. 2. The world is an illusion. Those who choose to come to it seek a place where they can be illusions and avoid their own reality. But when they discover that their own reality is even here, they give way and let it lead them. What other choice can they really make? Letting illusions walk ahead of reality is madness. But letting the illusion fade behind the truth and allowing the truth to emerge as it is—that is simply sanity. 3. This is the simple choice we make today. • The foolish illusion will remain in plain sight for a while, to be seen by those who chose to come, and who have not yet rejoiced in discovering that they were mistaken in their choice. • They cannot learn directly from the truth because they have denied that it is so. 3. They therefore need a Teacher who perceives their folly but who can still look beyond the illusion to the simple truth within them. 4. If the truth required them to give up the world, it would seem to them that it was asking them to sacrifice something that is real. Many have chosen to renounce the world while still believing in its reality. They have then suffered a sense of loss and have not been delivered as a result. Others chose nothing but the world, and they suffered an even deeper sense of loss, one they did not understand. 5. Between these paths there is another road that leads away from losses of every kind, for sacrifice and deprivation are both quickly left behind. • This is the path now assigned to you. This is the path now assigned to you. • You walk this path as others walk, • and you do not seem to be separate from them, though you are indeed. • Thus you can serve them while serving yourself, • and place their steps on the path that God has opened for you, and opened for them through you. 6. Illusion still seems to cling to you so that you may reach them. • Yet it has given way. • And it is not illusion they hear you speak of, • nor illusion that you lead their eyes to behold and their minds to grasp. And the truth, which walks before you, cannot speak to them through illusions either, for the road leads past illusions now, while on the way you call them to follow you. 7. All roads will ultimately lead to this one. • For sacrifice and deprivation are paths that lead nowhere, choices of failure, and goals that will remain impossible. All this gives way as the truth emerges within you, to lead your brothers away from the paths of death and set them on the path to happiness. • Their suffering is but an illusion. And they need a guide to lead them out of it, for they mistake illusion for truth. 8. This is the call of salvation, and nothing more. • He asks that you accept the truth and let it pass before you, illuminating the path of ransom that delivers from illusion. This is not a ransom with a price. There is no cost, only a gain. Illusion can only appear to hold the holy Son of God in chains. • It is only from illusions that he is saved. • As they give way, he finds himself again. 9. Go safely now, but be careful because this path is new to you. • You may find that you are still tempted to walk before the truth and let illusions lead you. Your holy brothers have been given to you to follow in your footsteps as you journey, certain of your goal, toward the truth. • It goes before you now, so that they may see something with which they can identify, something they understand to guide them on the way.
