Trying a Super-Small Foil on My Budget Foiling Moth Sailboat – Am I Too Heavy to Fly? EP5

This week I’m turbocharging my $2500 Mach 2 Moth — a carbon fibre foiling dinghy I found on Facebook Marketplace — with a super tiny, cut-down Macita hydrofoil. It’s built for elite sailors chasing top-end speed, not heavier weekend sailors just trying to get the thing off the water. With a takeoff speed of 14 knots, but my fitness level only letting me sail upwind at about 17 knots, I’m flying in a very uncomfortable envelope — not unlike coffin corner in an experimental aircraft. One lull and I crash down, one gust and I’m barely hanging on. Filmed out of Port Melbourne Yacht Club on Port Phillip Bay in a gusty 15–25 knot northerly, this session is all about fighting to stay on the foils, surviving wipeouts, and seeing if physics will give me a break. If you love hydrofoiling, extreme sailing, making things faster or watching small boats get pushed to their limits, this one’s for you. #sailing #moth #foilingmoth #mach2moth #mothsailing #hydrofoil #foilsailing #extremesailing #dinghysailing #portphillipbay #melbournesailing #australiansailing #foilfail #sailingvideo #sailinglife #smallboat #mothclass #coffincorner 💨 Thanks to our supporters: Ronstan Sailing → https://www.ronstan.com/au Damic Design Deck Grip → https://www.damicdesign.com/deckgrip Norfyx Technology Halyard Reels → https://norfyxtechnology.com/ And a huge thanks to everyone on Patreon, who helps make these ridiculous sailing experiments possible each week!   / tomstuchberysailing
