Unlike the infantrymen of other Astra Militarum regiments, Vostroyan soldiers do not wear austere uniforms or carry mass-produced laser rifles. They go to war in vibrant costumes, and each rifle is a masterpiece of craftsmanship. These soldiers are not recruited into the planetary defense forces or enlisted through conscription campaigns. Instead, the eldest son of each Vostroyan family is destined from birth to join the ranks of the Imperial Guard. Together, they form the regiments known as the Firstborn of Vostroya.
