Lorgar, Primarch of the Word Bearers, was the first of his brethren to embrace the cause of the Chaos Gods, though their allegiance only became apparent with the outbreak of the Horus Heresy. The Primarch and his Legion nonetheless held the Emperor of Mankind in boundless admiration, regarding him as a god. However, the Emperor had always denied his divine nature and publicly repudiated the Word Bearers' acts of devotion by ordering the Ultramarines to tear down the temples and idols they had built in his image. Following this humiliation, the Word Bearers lost none of their pious nature, but their prayers, once addressed exclusively to the Emperor, turned to other objects, cosmic entities less ungrateful to their worshippers.
