Pourquoi voyager était si difficile autrefois | Franck Ferrand

How did people travel in the past, when roads were scarce, bridges few, and journeys long, expensive, and risky? I wanted to revisit this often-overlooked reality: for centuries, the vast majority of people hardly ever traveled. From the Middle Ages to the post houses of Louis XI, from riverboats to the first royal mail services, from carriages to stagecoaches, a whole history of slowness, distance, and progress unfolds. Traveling, delivering a letter, crossing a river, or reaching a major city was a true expedition. Through this journey through time, we better understand how the train, then electricity and telecommunications, changed our lives. Because behind the history of transportation lies a deeper revolution: that of our relationship to time, space, and mobility.
