Episode Ten: Max and Jack Merril

Max & Jack Merril grew up chasing the same dream, but their athletic journeys took them down different paths. While Max earned the opportunity to compete at one of college football's biggest stages as an offensive lineman at the University of Texas, Jack carved out his own path on the baseball diamond at Sewanee: The University of the South. Their shared foundation of hard work, discipline, and family support has helped each brother navigate the challenges of competing at the collegiate level in two different sports. Jack, a right-handed pitcher for Sewanee, has steadily developed throughout his career while balancing academics and athletics. A two-time Southern Athletic Association Academic Honor Roll selection, he has made appearances both as a starter and reliever, recording strikeouts and continuing to grow on the mound. Before college, he starred at Strake Jesuit, where he earned Academic All-District honors and graduated with honors. Max, meanwhile, has spent four years in the Texas football program as an offensive lineman, earning recognition as a three-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll selection after arriving in Austin as a two-time all-district standout in high school. In this episode of Bullpen Talk, the Merril brothers share what it's like to pursue elite athletics together while competing in different sports and at different levels of college athletics. They discuss the lessons they've learned from football and baseball, the importance of academics, the role their family has played in their success, and how they've supported one another through the highs and lows of their respective journeys. It's a conversation about brotherhood, perseverance, and what it means to chase excellence—on the field, in the classroom, and in life.
