This second phase of demolition was carried out after several business owners were discovered reusing buildings that had previously been demolished. Since morning, hundreds of joint personnel have been deployed to secure the demolition process. The scene was bustling with the presence of two excavators working to demolish semi-permanent and permanent structures blocking the drainage channel. Several trucks and garbage trucks were also on standby to clear the debris from the demolished buildings. Officers from the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), the Public Works Agency, the Fire Department, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), and district officials were seen guarding the entire road. Bontoala Sub-district Head, Patahulla, explained that this operation was a continuation of the previous operation, which took place on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. He revealed that in total, around 20 buildings had received warning letters (SP) up to the third phase for using drainage areas as part of their business premises. According to him, the building owners at the time requested a period of time until May 30, 2026, to carry out the demolition independently. The government agreed to this request, hoping the demolition process could proceed without coercion. However, by the deadline, most building owners had not complied with the agreement. "They haven't carried out the demolition independently since June 1st. So, they're reneging on their agreement, which is why enforcement officers are now taking action," he explained. The Bontoala Sub-district Head emphasized that all the buildings being demolished were located above drainage channels and had the potential to disrupt the city's infrastructure. "Most of the buildings being demolished are located above drainage channels. They use the drainage as part of their buildings, so that's what we're controlling," he said. He added that most of the buildings had been standing for quite some time and had been in use for decades. To support the demolition process, around 300 joint personnel were deployed to the field. The demolition process took place under strict police supervision. One by one, sections of the buildings that protruded above the drainage were leveled using excavators.
