Welcome back to Old Oak Common, the site of HS2’s new super-hub station in west London - set to become the best-connected railway station in the UK. In this update, Peter Gow, HS2’s Project Director for Old Oak Common, takes you behind the scenes for an exclusive look at how this world-class station is taking shape. Over the past year, the team has: 🚄 Completed the super-strong foundations for HS2’s high-speed platforms 🏗️ Installed the first platform slabs - each precision-made using cutting-edge manufacturing 🌍 Decommissioned the on-site low-carbon concrete plant after producing 200,000m³ of sustainable material 🧱 Begun construction on more than 1,600 internal rooms 🌧️ Built vast underground rainwater tanks to support sustainable drainage 🦾 Installed the world’s highest lift capacity tower crane - ready for roof assembly 👷 Welcomed the 150th apprentice to the site since 2019 Plus, Peter shares what’s coming next - from installing the station’s striking roof structure to preparing for the launch of the two tunnel boring machines that will dig the 4.5-mile connection to Euston.
