Charting a Course for Maritime’s Future - Conference 2026 As the Secretariat, we were pleased to host and deliver IMEC’s Conference on the 21st of May, titled “Charting a Course for Maritime’s Future” bringing together a diverse audience of industry delegates, Flag States, IMEC Members, Cadets, and Seafarers. At its core, the conference theme was about “Putting People at the Helm” creating a platform to listen, reflect, and ensure that the voices of seafarers are not only heard, but actively shaping the future of our industry. Hosted by Sam Megwa. Panelists were Dr. Nana Ofosu Boateng & Dr Dennis Athehnija, Regional Maritime University, Mubarick Maswudu - Ghana Maritme Authority, Kassa Shewagizaw - Ethopian Maritime Authority, Frans Joubert - Ethiopian Maritime Training Institute. This session highlighted the region’s growing potential as a future seafarer hub, while also openly addressing challenges such as limited berth availability for cadets.
