How Spain’s immigration plan is splitting the EU | Sylwia K. Mazur de Araújo Correia

Spain’s biggest migrant regularization program in two decades has closed after attracting well over a million applications. While Madrid argues that immigration is essential for the economy, 19 European Union countries are pushing in the opposite direction. ""The idea is to give an opportunity to people who are already on the market and living in Spain,"" says Sílvia K. Mazur de Araújo Correia, a researcher at the Católica Research Centre for the Future of Law, on World Talks. However, migrants with legalized status in Spain effectively gain access to the entire European Union. ""The voices coming from Europe, from Brussels, and from other European capitals are very, very firm,"" the expert adds. Join Sascha Fahrbach and his guest as they discuss migrant legislation, proposed European Union solutions, and how European economies would handle the demographic crisis without welcoming migrants.
