Änderungen im Kraftfahrgesetz (16.07.2026)

The centerpiece of the amendment to the Motor Vehicle Act is the extended intervals for the periodic technical inspections of cars and motorcycles (the "Pickerl"). Currently, the 3:2:1 rule applies: three years after initial registration, two years after the initial inspection, and then annually. This is to be changed to a 4:2:2:2:1 rule: four years after initial registration, then three extensions of two years each, and then annually. Furthermore, measures to simplify administration and adjustments to vehicle inspections, driving schools, and license plates are planned.
