Deborah York: Vedrò fra poco (Handel Admeto)

It is a real shame these performances weren't made into a commercially available recording. Christophe Rousset has an almost faultless sense for Handel's tempi and phrasing; hopefully, we will see him produce more Handel recordings in the future. Admeto is a strangely neglected Opera in the Handel discography despiting ranking among her better works musically. There is only one complete recording: Alan Curtis' set from the late seventies. Deborah York has a lovely tone and strong middle, essential for arias written for the mezzo-soprano Faustina Bordoni. Though principally an early music singer, she recorded Anne truelove in Gardiner's recording of The Rake's Progress to great acclaim. Deborah York Christophe Rousset Les Talens Lyriques 1998
