Christchurch Earthquake - Red Zone Walking Tour

Come with me for a morning walk around the Christchurch Red Zone, many years after the earthquake. We start off in the east side of Dallington, a suburb that centres around the Avon River and was heavily affected by the Christchurch Earthquake. We can see the damaged roads weaving through the blocks with no houses, there are a few people cycling and jogging around the red zone which is fairly common for a Sunday morning. We walk along the river checking out the willow trees and wildlife, there are many birds living in the red zone and with the absence of humans they have been growing quite large. I hope you enjoy the birdsongs. The rowing club sits on the east side of the river bank, I saw council plans that they are going to rebuild the club on this side of the river, but I can't see any work or progress so far. As we walk back along the river we see a couple of ladies who don't like the camera. Walking back up across the bridge we can see a large area fenced off for construction, it looks like they are building a large wooden walkway, some toilets and even a brand new park. I liked that there is a bbq area and basketball court. I think they are going to make it like Margaret Mahey in the City. I was confused by the deep trench they have in the construction zone... are they going to extend the river?? that would look amazing! We finish the walk by doing a full loop around he construction site, I walked out onto a few streets that came straight out of a WalkfromhomeNZ Dangerous Streets of NZ video.
