True Ghost Story: The Last Night in the House

James lived in Lynchburg, Virginia, visiting his mother on weekends after his parents divorced. The house was older — split foyer, finished basement, another tenant downstairs. He never had a single paranormal experience there. Not once. Nothing moved. Nothing appeared. Nothing felt wrong. Then came the last night. Moving day was tomorrow. The beds were packed. He and his sister were sleeping on the couches downstairs when he woke up and looked toward the stairs. A dark cloaked figure stood at the top — head visible, no hood, the bottom of it almost flowing — moving deliberately down the staircase. As it descended, it began to evaporate from the bottom up, disappearing step by step until it was gone. He couldn't scream. He couldn't move. He pulled the covers over his head and blacked out. The next thing he knew, it was morning. He still sees it clearly today. Also this episode: a woman from Wisconsin was at a local park with her boyfriend when something shifted. Her boyfriend started acting strange first. Then it got into her. She began kicking with the strength of a horse, shouting in ways she couldn't control, completely unaware of what she was doing. It took a man physically grabbing her and shouting religious scripture to bring her back. She still doesn't know what was in that park. She still doesn't know exactly what happened to her.
