After returning home from a long say of superheroing, Kara Zor-El finds an unwanted inter-dimensional visitor in her home, who has a bone to pick. Tensions quickly escalate into an all out slugfest as Power Girl defends her right to exist. A WORD FROM CHRIS Nearly 20 years ago, I released my very first Power Girl film. You might have seen it. To my knowledge it was the first ever live action incarnation of the character. I've always loved the Power Girl, as well as her tumultuous relationship to DC's numerous Crisis events. Canonically Kara is one of the only characters who is still capable of remembering her lives prior to each universal reset. I always thought that was pretty cool, and after 40 years of DC continually reboot everything, I thought it would be a good setup for my story. I wanted something super simple, but packed with enough emotional angst that someone who has survived multiple extinction level events might be experiencing. So when someone comes along (Tashanna aka Lady Quark) and randomly label her as a potential threat to the multiverse itself, it would make sense for Power Girl to take that personally and want to beat the snot out of them. While the script may have flowed out of me very naturally, development for this project was absolute hell. I initially wanted to bring back my original actress (Tawnya Manion) to reprise her role, but distance and scheduling proved it just wasn't in the cards. Thus, I was forced to find someone new. I put out a casting, which ended up being rather fruitless. You'd think it would be easy to find a talented blonde actress in LA who would want to play a superhero, but take it from me, it's quite the difficult process. First and foremost, I wanted to find someone who was able to bring that "I'm totally over it" quality that I've come to associate Power Girl with, and with my casting coming up short, I began reaching out to potential actresses on various talent databases. I ended up finding someone who gave an amazing audition for the part. She even came in for the a fitting and posters. Unfortunately, 12 hours before we were set to film, she backed out, sighting she had a last minute audition scheduled for the time of our shoot. I'm quite an understanding person, but backing out 12 hours prior to filming really leaves a bad taste in my mouth, especially when other people have put aside their time to film as well. But here's the real kicker, turns out the actress in question didn't have an audition. She instead went out drinking the night before filming and didn't want to film hungover. I know she was hungover because she posted all about it on her social media the following morning. Needless to say, I had no desire to work with this person whatsoever, so I began the arduous task of searching for someone else to fill the role. During this time, my actress who was set to play Tashanna also had to drop out as she was moving. Not like I needed another challenge or anything. So now, with both of my leads out, I pretty much put Power Girl on the back burner, and focused on other projects until I had something to show for myself. I ended up making HAUNTED CITY : VENATOR, THE BLACK TERROR, PHANTOM LADY RED WIDOW and US AGENT before I finally was able to fill the roles of Power Girl and Tashanna. Then, in October, I finally began production. As expected, filming went rather quickly, given the script was super simple and not that complicated to produce. The only real challenge were the VFX. It should come as no surprise to anyone that I often operate without any real budget. All of my productions are shoestring at best, and since I try not to inconvenience people as much as possible, I did all the special effects myself. In honesty, they aren't as great as imagined they would be, but they aren't terrible either. Overall, the short is a fun little action piece that I think any Power Girl fan will enjoy.
