MS. FURY (a film by Chris .R. Notarile)

CHECK OUT OUR MERCH: https://www.redbubble.com/people/blin... With her life in ruins, and a terminal diagnosis looming over her head, Marla Drake decides to make use of what little time she has left on this Earth by unleashing her bottled up fury upon a small human trafficking ring. Inspired by the public domain superhero, Miss. Fury, created by June Tarpe' Mills. A WORD FROM CHRIS If I'm being honest, Miss. Fury was a tough nut to crack. So many female PD superheroes of the golden age of comics pretty much have the exact same backstory- a bored rich socialite looking for adventure. While that may have been premium entertainment back in the 1940's, nowadays, it just comes off as uninspired; and for someone like Marla Drake, you don't get the name Miss. Fury by being a well adjusted member of society. You gotta have a screw loose. I knew going into this I was going to have a change a lot, which is something I typically frown on when adapting an IP that I didn't create, but in order to bring Miss. Fury into the 21st century, I felt it was imperative to give her a makeover. Probably the biggest change I made to the character was the terminal diagnosis of cancer. I want everyone to know that Marla is going to die and there is nothing that can be done to stop it. No miracle cures, no magic, no nothing. She is going to die, but more importantly, she knows it and is facing it head on. I feel that when you actually know your time is up, you would (I'd hope) want to make the most out of it. So in Marla's case, I thought the idea of her wanting to fight crime and possibly die in battle makes for a very believable motivation compared to her 1940's bored debutante counterpart. The second biggest change would be her costume. Miss. Fury famously wears a black cat/panther suit, with ears that somehow once belonged to an African Shaman; and the whole reason why she wore the suit at all was for a costume party. At no point is this feline theme incorporated into her mythos or personality. She has no cat powers, doesn't do anything specifically cat-like. She pretty much just looks like classic Catwoman before Catwoman was even created; and since Catwoman DOES exist now, and pretty much owns that specific look, it felt very logical to ditch the cat ears for my take on MS. FURY. For the suit design, I wanted to go full low tech and practical. I wanted a suit you could buy offline, since that's pretty much what I did. I felt a padded/armored black motocross suit was the way to go, with red trim to honor the red cape she would at times wear. If you're a fan of public domain superheroes, or my work, then I'm sure you might have noticed Sandra Knight's aka Phantom Lady's cameo. I really like the idea that not only are they long time friends, but that Marla was the one who trained Sandra, as it easily explains how she is capable of handling herself in battle. It also helps move the plot along since it is Phantom Lady who provides Ms. Fury the intel she needs to track down the missing girl.
