Pasión por el cobre: Joyería michoacana
Santa Clara del Cobre, the municipal seat of Salvador Escalante, is known for its artisans and the annual fair where they showcase their finest copper pieces. The Hammered Copper competition began in 1964, and the first festival dedicated to this craft was held in 1965. This Pueblo Mágico (Magic Town) boasts 450 artisans. Of these, 15 families specialize exclusively in jewelry, among them María de los Ángeles García Reyes.
