At the age of 50, he wrote in his diary: "I dreamed that I was twenty and I was a virtuoso." However, he did more for the violin than dozens of other violinists, writing one of the most famous works for this instrument – Violin Concerto in D minor. In this Concerto, he competes not only with internal demons, but also with prominent predecessors. Namely, with Felix Mendelssohn, whose concert Sibelius played during his student years, and whose example he used when writing his concert, that barely has any traditional orchestral introduction. In this video, Sibelius's concert is performed by Ukrainian violinist Oleksii Semenenko in the Final of one of the most prestigious competitions – the Queen Elizabeth Competition 2015, where he won the Second Prize for Ukraine. ………………………………………………………………………… 00:00 I.
