WHAT GIVES? Used TOYOTA Prices are SKYROCKETING

Used Toyota Truck and SUV Prices are SKYROCKETING in 2026! Here’s Why… What the heck is happening to USED Toyota Truck and SUV prices? Why in the world are they skyrocketing right now? Have you checked the current pricing on a 200 series Toyota Land Cruiser? Perhaps a 2020 or 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser Heritage Edition? They're absolutely insane right now. Many examples with less than 20K miles are selling for over $120K. If it has less than 10K miles, they may fetch $150K or more. Can you imagine? These are the same exact 200 series Land Cruisers that were collecting dust on Toyota dealer lots across the country back in 2020 and 2021. Dealerships couldn't sell them! Why the sudden craze for them? It's the forbidden fruit concept, people want the vehicles they can no longer have. People miss the reliability and simplicity of the 200 series Land Cruiser, which is why they're flocking back to them. The same can be said about the previous generation Toyota Tundra, 4Runner, Sequoia, and Tacoma. People miss their naturally aspirated engines. Used values of the V8 Tundra have shot up tremendously. People don't want to touch the current 2026 Toyota Tundra with a 10ft pole, especially with all their engine issues and recalls. The 2021 and older Tundra, especially the TRD Pro model, is fetching figures in the high $50K and low $60K range. Blows my mind given they had an original MSRP of $54K back in 2021, their final year. The new Tundras and Sequoias come with a twin turbo V6 under the hood, or a hybrid TT V6 with the higher trim models like the TRD Pro, Platinum, and Capstone. They're overcomplicated now, the simple V8 of the past is what people want. The 5th hen Toyota 4Runner went away in 2025, with 2024 being their final year in the US. The 5th gen came with a super reliable and brutish 4.0L NA V6. That V6 was notorious for running 300-500K miles with minimal headache or repair needed, just keep the oil changed and gas in the tank... and it would start and run strong! Same goes for the previous 3rd gen Toyota Tacoma, it had a 3.5L NA V6, just as reliable as the 4Runner's 4.0L V6. People loved that truck -and for good reason. The new 2024 and up Tacoma forces you to have a tiny little 2.4L turbo 4 cylinder engine... or a hybrid 4 banger. Yikes. We saw what happened to Toyota FJ Cruiser values after they went away in 2014, sending it off with the Trail Teams Ultimate Edition (limited to 2500 units). Those values skyrocketed too... we're seeing the same thing happen now (but worse) with the Tundra and Land Cruiser specifically. The 4Runner, Sequoia and Tacoma aren't far behind. People want 3 things when it comes to their vehicles: Reliability, Simplicity and Affordability. These have been the core tenants of Toyota trucks and SUVs forever, but Toyota North America has distanced themselves from this philosophy ...and by a lot. What are your thoughts on this?
