Economics student Gabriel de Oliveira, 19, was arrested by police on charges of extorting and threatening a 14-year-old girl in Goiás. The young man used artificial intelligence to manipulate photos of the victim and coerce her with humiliating challenges. Authorities arrested him as he was preparing to go to college in Paraná. The case began when Gabriel met the teenager through social media. He hacked into her cell phone and installed apps that allowed him to monitor her remotely. Thus, he controlled her actions by demanding that she complete tasks under threat of publishing false images as real. For three months, the messages exchanged between them included increasingly aggressive demands. At one point, Gabriel even asked for transfers in virtual currencies as part of the blackmail.
