Healing music - Sibelius - Violin concerto - pt.1

Jean Sibelius completed his first (and only) violin concerto in 1904. The premiere in Helsinki, however, was disastrous. Sibelius published a revised version in 1905, the performance of which was again wrought with difficulty. The concerto became famous after the release of the 1991 recording by Leonidas Kavakos, conducted by Osmo Vänskä. Here, the first movement of that recording is heard. Its atmosphere is characterized by the "sturm und drang" typical of emotional romantic concertos.
