This time, we'll travel to Kinmen (金門), the farthest point of Taiwan, with Lee Yeon-bok, a renowned Korean Chinese cuisine expert! Kinmen, a remote island just 10km from China, is a place where sandstorms so strong that it even led to the erection of the Feng Shiye (風獅爺), a lion statue meant to control the wind. While it's now a 30-minute boat ride to China, Kinmen was once the scene of numerous wars between China and Taiwan. We'll stroll along Cihu Beach (慈湖海邊), where the Gui Tiao Zhai (軌條砦), a military installation, remain, and encounter the scars of war. Kinmen, a region steeped in wind and barren soil, primarily cultivates wheat and sorghum. Made from these grains, kaoliang liquor (高粱酒) is Kinmen's signature specialty! Visit a brewery to witness the kaoliang liquor-making process and sample the 70% proof liquor. Beyond the liquor itself, many dishes are made with kaoliang liquor. Jiu Niang Dan (酒釀蛋), eggs boiled in kaoliang liquor, are found nowhere else in Taiwan or the world, but only in Kinmen! Kaoliang beef (高粱牛), fed a mixture of sake lees and grass, is renowned for its tenderness and softness. Experience the true flavors of Kinmen by trying beef noodles made with kaoliang beef. We visit Longshan Temple (龍山寺), the oldest temple in Taipei, Taiwan's capital. People pray before the various deities enshrined there, remembering their families and friends. You can tell your fortune by throwing a tool called a jiaobei (笅杯). With a hungry stomach, we head to the bustling Ximending area, where Chinese cuisine master Li Yanfu introduces a hidden gem. We savor beef noodles (牛肉麵) and chive pancakes (韭黃鍋貼) at a shabby alleyway restaurant. The owner reveals the secret to this long-standing restaurant: fresh ingredients and reasonable prices! Experience the true taste of Taiwan at this local favorite, consistently praised by regulars. The National Palace Museum (國立故宮博物院) houses over 700,000 artifacts. In this world-renowned museum, we see rare treasures like six-shaped stones and jadeite baichae (第二立真) with our own eyes. Then, we visit a fine-dining restaurant and savor a course meal that looks exactly like the original. We also visit a whiskey distillery brimming with oak aromas, a hot spot these days. What does the whiskey favored by K-pop stars taste like? We'll sample a variety of flavors and even create our own. If you've exhausted yourself from hiking, it's time to recharge! We visit a popular Baekjeolgye (白折雞) restaurant, packed with people even on weekdays.
