Modern DT&I June, 2026 Layout Update!

Welcome back to the HO Scale Modern DT&I! 🏳️‍🌈Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈 Let’s have a look at the layout progress as of June, 2026. We start out in the original room, where I’ve reassembled most of the town scene. My next project here will be roads and crossings. I’m also considering a parking garage to hide the pass through the wall, similar to how the OC passes through downtown Columbus. I should be able to replicate that and keep it shallow enough for the purpose. Moving on to the new section, the turntable is in and working great. I’m currently building the roundhouse. The whole back edge of this section will be shallow building flats that represent railroad shops. There will be a full sized, 3-stall shop building near the depot, along with 3 engine service tracks. The depot platform is the latest completion and I’m excited to get the platform lights hooked up. Immediately behind the depot, I’m planning an overpass. When viewed from the Chillicothe side it will look like the actual Main Street overpass. When viewed from the back, it will look like a highway overpass in Detroit. I’m also planning on painting the walls here the same color as the backdrop and possibly adding some skyline for photos. Oakwood Junction is a pretty busy spot. I am working on a second part to this video to show the main switching operations here. Basically, the local picks up all the auto parts and auto racks from the yard and sets them out for the road train. While the yard is empty, the remaining 3 tracks are switched. These cars will head to Newark yard while the auto racks and parts will make up the bulk of the road train. Next month is going to be a big one for the MDTI and America’s 250th anniversary celebration. Stay tuned! I’ve also got some exciting news to share.
