What's Happening at the BNSF Topeka Shops?

Come along as we explore high above the BNSF Topeka Shops, in Topeka, Kansas. Known as the namesake city of the former Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, the Topeka shops date back to 1878, when the facility was moved to the current location. After over 100 years are several expansions and updates, the facility provides a vital role for the modern day BNSF Railway. Topeka is known for its locomotive overhauls and heavy repairs that occur here. In addition, the BNSF Railway's business/executive car fleet is maintained and based out of the historic shops. Topeka is also home to a large locomotive deadline, where hundreds of BNSF locomotives and equipment are stored, waiting for final disposition or overhaul. In this video, we'll take a look at the shop facilities, and later we'll take a detailed look at the locomotives stored in the nearby deadline. BNSF's two America250 units are also featured here, just days after they were unveiled in May 2026.
