The first generation of the Nissan Versa was a huge success in Brazil, offering plenty of interior space at a low price. This formula made the Nissan sedan an absolute hit with taxi drivers and ride-sharing drivers, especially in its entry-level versions. With the launch of the second generation, Nissan completely changed the Versa's strategy, abandoning the "cheapest square meter in Brazil" claim to deliver a car with a much more modern look and a more complete set of equipment and versions, starting with the 1.6 engine. The design is heavily inspired by the Nissan Sentra, the Japanese brand's mid-size sedan, and the Nissan Kicks, its platform sibling. Even though it was the best-selling model in Mexico for the sixth consecutive year, here in Brazil Nissan didn't have high expectations for the second generation of the Versa, expecting less than 8,000 units sold per year – a number that, incidentally, was surpassed in 2021.
