What changes will same-sex marriage bring to society? How do those directly involved perceive marriage? We conducted on-site interviews with same-sex couples and people on the streets. We explored universal stories of "love" in each couple, unique circumstances in each country, and knowledge that will be useful for Japan's future. Based on these real voices, we produced the original documentary film, "We Visited Countries Where Same-Sex Marriage is Legal!" The third installment focuses on Nepal, which in 2023 became the second country in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage. Behind this seemingly surprising news, what were the thoughts and movements of the people involved? We interviewed transgender couples, plaintiffs in lawsuits, those whose marriage registration is still provisional, and people from diverse generations sharing their real experiences. How is society changing in those countries and how are people embracing marriage? At Marriage For All Japan, we have produced a set of original documentary movies entitled ‘Traveling to a Marriage Equality Country’. Through interviews with same-sex couples and people on the street, we were able to show the real lives and real voices of same-sex couples, sharing the sort of love stories we find everywhere, the specific context of each country, and lessons that will help Japan to be ready for a future with same-sex marriage. The 3rd movie takes us to Nepal, which became the 2nd place in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage in May 2023. What was behind this surprising news? Whose hopes, determination, and years of advocacy made it possible?
