EP 112 - O risco real de produzir grãos no oeste baiano - com Paulo Sibin

In episode 112 of the Agro em Debate podcast, recorded at the Bahia Farm Show in Luiz Eduardo Magalhães, we welcome Paulo Sibin, a rural producer who traded the tradition of coffee for grain production and closely followed the birth of agribusiness in Western Bahia. Coming from a coffee-growing family in the interior of São Paulo, Paulo arrived in the region in the 1990s, when there was no electricity, paved roads, or infrastructure. He was a pioneer in pivot irrigation, planted 1,600 hectares of coffee, and participated in an export operation that moved 100,000 sacks per month. In this conversation, Paulo recounts the shift to soybeans and corn, the decision to eradicate coffee after a fire in the plantation, the creation of SP Agro, the monthly lease model with his family, and the expansion into Tocantins, where rain during harvest became the biggest challenge of the operation. A straightforward discussion about the real risks of producing in Brazil, the cost of machinery, fertilizer, faith, and the price of working double to make it through each harvest. 00:00 Opening and introduction of Paulão 01:49 Family roots in coffee in São Paulo and Minas Gerais 02:29 The pioneering farm and the cost of electricity 05:55 The Grande Leste exporter and the sale of 100,000 sacks per month 08:33 The challenges of planting coffee in Western Bahia 09:52 Pioneering in pivot irrigation 13:37 The frost of 1994 and the search for a safe region 17:42 The transition from coffee to grains and the fire in the crop 23:50 The creation of SP Agro and the expansion to Tocantins 26:39 Rain during harvest, storage and drying 34:14 Machinery, interest rates, costs and fertilizer 46:36 The teachings of parents, faith and balance Subscribe to the channel, activate notifications and share this episode with those who live in agribusiness.
