In the sixth episode of 'Abyaasam', Nisha Rajagopal takes us through her learning sessions and what she has imbibed from her gurus. About the artist: An exciting Carnatic vocalist with a golden voice, Nisha Rajagopalan commenced her training with her mother Smt. Vasundhra Rajagopal while residing in Toronto, Canada. Realizing her inclination and talent for music, her parents moved to Delhi, India in 1992 in order for Nisha to receive advanced training with Sangita Kala Acharya Shri T. R. Subrahmanyam. After relocating to Chennai, Nisha continued her musical training with Sangita Kala Acharya Shri P. S. Narayanaswamy and Sangita Kala Acharya Smt. Suguna Varadachari. Nisha holds a B.E. degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the University of Madras. She is an ‘A’ graded artist of the All India Radio and an accredited artist of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). Nisha is permanently settled in Chennai and lives there with her husband, son and daughter. She is committed to the cause of Carnatic music. Major Performances Performed in many of the Sabhas such as: • Music Academy, Kartik Fine Arts, Narada Gana Sabha, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Mylapore Fine Arts, Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha, Hamsadhwani, Sri Kapali Fine Arts, Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Brahma Gana Sabha, Rasika Ranjani Sabha, Bharat Kalachar, Sri Thyagaraja Seva Samithi, Naada Inbam, Nadopasana, Saraswathi, Asthika Samajam, Shanthi Arts Foundation and Endowments, Sarvani Sangeetha Sabha, Kalarasana, Sri Thyagaraja Vidwath Samajam, Youth Association of Classical Music, and many others. • Has performed in Sabhas in all the major cities in India. • She has provided live vocals for the theatre productions of Dr. Gowri Ramnarayan’s “JustUs Repertory” for ‘Miradasi’, ‘Aham Sita’, 'Yashodhara' and ‘Sarpa Sutra’, written and directed by Dr. Gowri Ramnarayan, which have been staged at many cities all over India. Overseas performances: • Performed at the prestigious Salzburg Music Festival with Smt Alarmel Valli in July 2015 • Was invited as a faculty member / performer for Music India (conducted by Milapfest, UK), a week-long workshop at Liverpool, UK in July/Aug 2013 • Completed a tour of the US in Feb-April 2009 under the sponsorship of Carnatic Music Association of North America (CMANA), giving concerts in 17 cities.
