Quick & Easy Flat & Flip Top Boxes| Use It Up Papercraft Challenge | Handmade Gift Box Tutorial
Join me live as we create some quick and easy flip top boxes, perfect for gifting, using the cardstock and Designer Series Paper we already have in our craft stash! This week’s Stampin’ Among the Gum Trees Use It Up Challenge is all about turning those saved sheets of cardstock, pretty DSP pieces, retired papers, leftover strips and “I’ll use it one day” supplies into something beautiful, practical and giftable. We’ll be making a gorgeous flip top greeting card box measuring approximately 15cm x 11cm x 3cm — the perfect size for holding handmade cards, envelopes, note cards, gift tags or a small papercraft gift. This is a lovely project for beginner papercrafters, but experienced card makers will enjoy it too. It’s simple, useful, and a wonderful way to use up patterned paper, cardstock and scraps while creating a handmade gift box you’ll be proud to give. In this live papercraft tutorial, we’ll look at: ✨ How to make a flip top card box ✨ How to use cardstock and DSP from your stash ✨ Easy scoring and folding tips for neat boxes ✨ Ways to decorate your box with Designer Series Paper ✨ Ideas for gifting handmade cards, tags and note card sets ✨ How to adapt the project using what you already have This project is perfect for: • handmade card gift sets • thank you card boxes • Christmas card packaging • birthday gifts • craft fair items • hostess gifts • using up retired DSP • shrinking your scrap bin • creating pretty papercraft storage So grab your cardstock, DSP, paper trimmer, scoring tool, bone folder and adhesive, and craft along with me for a relaxed and creative session. Greeting Card Box Template Box Base Cut cardstock to: 21cm x 17cm Score on all four sides at 3cm Box Lid The lid needs to be slightly larger so it fits over the base. Cut cardstock to: 21.5cm x 17.5cm Score on all four sides at: 3cm Flip Top Greeting Card Box Template Cardstock 21cm x 30cm On the 30cm side score at: • 3cm • 14cm • 17cm • 27cm Then turn the cardstock so the 21cm side is across the top, and score at: • 3cm • 18cm This creates the side walls and leaves the centre section at 15cm wide. Cutting Guide After scoring: 1. Cut up the vertical score lines from the bottom edge to the first horizontal score line. 2. Cut up the vertical score lines between the base and back wall to create side tabs. 3. Trim away the two small corner sections beside the front lid flap. 4. Slightly wedge the tabs so the box folds neatly. 5. Round the corners of the front lid flap if you’d like a softer finish. Assembly 1. Fold and burnish all score lines well. 2. Add strong adhesive to the small tabs on the front wall. 3. Fold the side walls up and adhere the front tabs inside the box. 4. Add adhesive to the side tabs beside the back wall and adhere them inside the side walls. 5. Fold the lid over the top. 6. The front flap folds down over the front of the box. You can add a small Velcro dot, magnet, ribbon wrap, or belly band to keep the lid closed.
