Dog Knapping

The plaintiff says the defendant stole his dog and won’t give it back. He claims the defendant found his dog, took it in, and now refuses to return it or compensate him for its value, so he’s suing. The defendant says the dog showed up on her front stoop one day looking as though it was starving to death. She says she took it to the vet, discovered it wasn’t microchipped, nursed it back to health and assumed it was a stray. Three months later, the plaintiff showed up claiming the dog was his American bulldog, but she says the dog she has appears to be a mixed breed, part boxer and part pit bull. She says no one knows for sure whether the dog belongs to the plaintiff, but her son loves the dog and she’s keeping it.
