A Japanese Pastor Reaches Otaku & Gamers with the Gospel | Un-dark Update

I flew to Okinawa to meet Hijiri-san, a Japanese pastor who’s been using games and esports to connect people to Jesus for about 10 years. In this video, we talk about: • Why gaming ministry still faces resistance inside some Japanese churches • What it’s like pioneering alone without institutional support • Why Okinawa feels spiritually and culturally different from mainland Japan • Okinawa’s growing esports and Minecraft education scene • How online games can become real community for gamers, otaku, and those who feel isolated 🔹 Un-Dark Update Since my last video, something unexpected happened. We launched a small online Discord space, and people from all over the world—gamers, streamers, developers, and creatives—reached out saying they’ve been praying for years to use their gifts for Japan but didn’t know where or how. Out of that, a global movement called Un-Dark is beginning to take shape—focused on reaching the digital mission field with wisdom, care, and unity. We’re currently researching platforms like VRChat, Genshin Impact, and other online games as places where genuine relationships and community can form. We’re moving carefully and intentionally, prioritizing shared vision, trust, and prayer. 📩 Want to Connect?
