Fasnachtsküchle für Groß und Klein - Fasnetsküchle

Birgit is baking delicious Fasnachtsküchle (carnival cakes) today, perfect for the Fasnet season. ▬ Ingredients ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Serves 4: 500 g flour 250 ml milk 30 g sugar 1 tsp salt 1/2 cube of yeast 1 egg 40 g butter 100 g sugar for sprinkling Deep-frying fat / oil ▬ Recipe ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Pour the milk into a small saucepan and heat it to lukewarm. Then add the 30 g sugar, the salt, the butter, and the egg, one after the other, to the pan. Stir thoroughly with a mixer. Then crumble in the yeast and stir well again. Pour the flour into a mixing bowl and make a well in the center. Then pour the milk from the pan into the well and stir well. As soon as the dough becomes too difficult for the mixer to knead, transfer it to a floured work surface and continue kneading by hand. If the dough is a bit sticky, simply add a little more flour. Put some flour into the bowl and place your well-kneaded dough in it. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for about 30-45 minutes. The dough should have risen by at least doubled in size. Flour your work surface again and place the dough on it. Now roll it out so that it is about half a centimeter thick. Cut the dough into small diamonds using a pastry wheel or a blunt knife: First, make a few strips 5-6 cm wide and then cut the diamonds to size. Place the dough diamonds individually on the floured work surface. Finally, cover everything with a tea towel and let the diamonds rise for another 30 minutes. Now it's time to fry: You'll need a heat-resistant pan filled with frying oil to a maximum depth of 2 cm. You'll also need a ladle, two forks, a plate lined with paper towels, and a plate into which you'll pour the 100 g of sugar. Prepare everything, because frying needs to happen quickly. Heat the pan with the oil. To check if the oil is hot enough, you can place a wooden spoon in it. If small bubbles appear on the spoon, the oil is hot enough. Place the first 6-8 cakes in your hand and drop them one after the other into the hot oil. After about 1 minute, check whether the cakes have browned. If so, flip them with the two forks. When the other side is also brown, you can remove all the cakes with a ladle and place them on the paper towel. Immediately afterward, transfer them to the other plate with the sugar coating. Turn them over a bit so the sugar sticks nicely to the cakes. The carnival cakes taste best warm, of course. If you like, you can also enjoy them with some delicious applesauce. Enjoy eating them!
