Tour por Península Valdés 🐧🚍 Pingüinos Magallánicos, Cordero Patagónico y Paisajes Únicos 🌊🇦🇷
We took two tours of the Valdés Peninsula with Argentina Vision, but today we're going to show you the first tour, which took us to Punta Norte and Estancia San Lorenzo, where we were able to observe hundreds of thousands of Magellanic penguins. The bus picked us up at our hotel, Bahia Nueva, at 8 a.m., and from there we began the journey to the peninsula. Our first stop was the Carlos Ameghino Isthmus Visitor Center, an interpretive center located at the entrance to the Valdés Peninsula. Here we were able to see the skeleton of a southern right whale and the skull of an orca. After our visit, we boarded the bus and continued on to Punta Norte, where we saw sea lions and elephant seals on the beach. We then continued to Estancia San Lorenzo, where there is a restaurant specializing in spit-roasted Patagonian lamb. They explained to us that the lamb on the peninsula has a unique flavor due to the salty air that permeates the vegetation, and since the sheep feed on these same plants, they absorb this saltiness. We also ordered empanadas, a salad, and a flan with dulce de leche that was exquisite! Within Estancia San Lorenzo itself, along the coast, is the world's largest Magellanic penguin rookery. It's estimated there are around 600,000 penguins at peak season. There is a path marked by white stones that allows you to visit the penguin colony. This way, you can see the nests made on the ground, usually under bushes, and also watch the penguins march toward the sea without disturbing them. After visiting the penguins, we boarded the bus once more and continued the trip to Puerto Pirámides—the only town within the Peninsula Valdés Nature Reserve. This is the tour we took: https://www.argentinavision.com/penin... 🐧🚍 Peninsula Valdés Tour: Magellanic Penguins, Patagonian Lamb, and Unique Landscapes 🌊🇦🇷 🌅🚌 Departing from Puerto Madryn and Heading to Peninsula Valdés We started the day in Puerto Madryn, where the Argentina Visión bus picked us up early at the Bahía Nueva Hotel to begin our tour to the famous Peninsula Valdés. We paid the entrance fee (650 pesos for tourists, 330 Argentine pesos, 100 pesos for Chubut residents). The tour begins through typical landscapes of the Patagonian steppe: arid land, low shrubs, and no natural trees due to the salty sea air. 🦙🏞️ Encounter with Local Wildlife and First Stops Along the route, we spotted many guanacos, and the guide explained how only trees planted by humans can survive there. Our first stop was the Carlos Ameghino Visitor Center, where we learned about the flora and fauna and saw the impressive skeleton of a southern right whale and the skull of an orca. An ideal place to understand the biodiversity and history of the region. 🦭🏖️ Punta Norte: Observing Sea Lions and Elephant Seals We continued our journey to Punta Norte, an area known for its concentration of sea lions and elephant seals. From the cliff, we observed these impressive animals in their natural habitat, maintaining the recommended distance so as not to disturb them. 🍽️🔥 Lunch at Estancia San Lorenzo: Patagonian Lamb At lunchtime, we stop at the traditional Estancia San Lorenzo. Country menu: juicy meat empanadas, fresh salad, homemade bread, red wine, sparkling water, and for the main course, spit-roasted Patagonian lamb with tender and juicy cuts. We are told how the unique flavor of the lamb is due to the salt grass and the natural conditions of the peninsula. For dessert, homemade flan with dulce de leche. 🐧🌱 World's Largest Penguin Colony: Encounter with the Magellanic Penguins After lunch comes one of the most anticipated moments: the San Lorenzo penguin colony, the largest Magellanic penguin colony in the world (600,000 in peak season). We walk along stone-marked paths, surrounded by penguins and nests. We watch the penguins march toward the sea and the chicks in their nests, always without invading their space. 🏝️🌊 Puerto Pirámides: Last Stop and End of the Tour The day concludes in Puerto Pirámides, the only town within the nature reserve, with a beach and beautiful views. We stayed there for a couple more nights and will continue exploring the region in upcoming videos. 💬🤳 Final Thoughts, Favorites, and Thanks We commented on what we liked most: The contact with the wildlife (guanacos, sea lions, elephant seals, penguins). The Patagonian lamb and the warmth of the experience at the estancia. The quality of the tour, the organization, and the unique landscapes of Patagonia.
