CHEAP DIY VAN PAINT JOB / ROLL-ON VAN PAINT JOB AND DECORATIVE BORDER HACK!
Do you want a new paint job for your van (or other vehicle) but don't want to spend thousands of dollars? Why not Do It Yourself!? This video will give you a suggestion for a cheap and cheerful DIY alternative to an expensive professional paint job, using a tough paint designed for utility vehicles, that can be rolled on. I show you how I painted my van with roll-on Rustoleum Farm & Implement Paint and how I created the decorative border. (Not sponsored by Rustoleum, but if they happen to be reading this... 'Would you throw a girl some paint, pretty please!') I was looking for durability rather than a classic car shine as I see my van as a utility vehicle, the paint I used is normally used for painting tractors etc. This paint can be applied using rollers and brushes, so no pray skills needed. There is also information about vinyl decal removal, rust spot treatment and prep sanding in this video, all in under 10 minutes! If this particular paint isn't available in your country or area, maybe check what is being used for utility vehicles or farm equipment where you live. An expensive professional paint job was out of the question for me, for this van that has past its prime of 150 000 miles. In the video i say that I spent $250-300, but I think I over calculated (I didn't want to under estimate it for the viewers), it was more like $200-250 (USD) on paint and tools for this project, and I also had A LOT of paint and other materials left over (pretty sure I have enough to paint another van with what is left). I bought $150 worth of paint (3 quarts of primer and 1 gallon + 4 separate quarts of paint, different colors for mixing) but only used a little more than half of it. I needed safety in quantity, since I was mixing a custom color and I also had no idea what I was doing. The rest of the money was spent on rust treatment solution, sandpaper and sponges, paint rollers, brushes, trays, a bucket, masking tape, mineral spirits and supplies to create the decorative border (much stuff that you might not need for your project). I definitely didn’t hold back on purchasing whatever I could need. Had I just wanted primer and a standard color paint, the paint alone could have costed as little as $70. It doesn’t have to be super expensive to spruce up a van or car, nor do you need to be a wiz with a spray gun. This is no sports car finish, it's a utility vehicle style paint job.
