Currently, the production of lead bullion using Australian ore is the largest in the country, and the product is used as a raw material for automobile batteries. It also produces silver bullions. The island is densely populated with factories and other buildings from the central part to the south, and the northern part is the residential area (company housing) for employees. Many of the employees commute by private boat from Takehara, etc., and there is also a town-run ferry from Shiramizu Port on Osakikamijima via Ikino Island. Since almost the entire island is company-owned, outsiders cannot enter without permission.
