Cidades para quem? : Joao Whitaker Ferreira at TEDxValedoAnhangabau

João Whitaker Ferreira is an architect and associate professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at USP (University of São Paulo). A consultant in the field of Architecture and Urbanism, he works primarily with housing policies, social housing, urban environmental development, urban planning instruments and the City Statute, urban economics and the real estate market, globalization, and global cities. João discusses the situation of megacities worldwide, the exhaustion of the urban planning model we are experiencing, and possible solutions for a sustainable and less unequal future. João shows that the right to the city is a human right and, as such, needs to be accessible to all those who live in the city. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
