The Most Colorful Primates: Red-Shanked Douc | Son Tra Mountain, Da Nang, Vietnam 🇻🇳 | Wildlife Vlog

👋 Hello! Today, Jiji goes to Sơn Trà Nature Reserve (also known as the "Monkey Mountain") in Đà Nẵng, Vietnam to observe and photograph the endangered "Queen of Primates" Red-Shanked Douc langurs! 🐒👑 Witness their beauty learn about their history, and support the ongoing conservation efforts to secure their future. ⛰️ We met up with a local guide named Luc (https://ecoguidevietnam.com/about-us), a photographer who has also worked with many organizations that protects the wildlife in Vietnam. Luc was not only very knowledgeable about the langurs, but he also made sure that we were having an amazing time. This was our first time doing a guided eco-tour and we're glad that we were able to make something out of the photos and videos we took to document the experience. 📸 The red-shanked duoc langurs are a dream subject. Their vivid colors and captivating presence offer a unique opportunity to capture the artistry of nature. Watch until the end to see the photos that Jiji took with her Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8mm. 🫶🏼 If you like nature, photography, and travel -- please like, comment, and subscribe to our channel to find out where Jiji goes next!    / @wherejijigoes   ===== 🎞️ Chapters 00:00 Intro 00:50 Before we head to the mountain 01:33 History of the Son Tra Mountain 04:03 First Red-Shanked Duoc encounter 🐒 04:52 Information about the Red-Shanked Douc 08:05 1st group encounter: 3 langurs from a family 10:25 2nd group encounter: 2 males from a Bachelor group 15:54 3rd group encounter: Another family 17:05 Mother carrying a baby 17:30 Outro 18:51 Photos 🏃🏻‍♀️ Where Jiji Went    • Japanese Snow Monkeys in Onsen 🐒♨️ | Photo...      • Winter Snow Hike Up to Jigokudani Snow Mon...      • Snow monkeys in an onsen | Japanese Macaqu...   ===== 📖 The red-shanked douc (voọc ngũ sắc), scientifically known as Pygathrix nemaeus, is a species of Old World monkey that belongs to the family Cercopithecidae. These strikingly colored primates are primarily found in Southeast Asia, including countries like Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. They inhabit tropical rainforests and are known for their distinctive appearance and social behavior. 🔴 Appearance: Red-shanked doucs are known for their vibrant and eye-catching appearance. They have a combination of colors that include bright red on their lower legs (shanks), golden faces, and black fur on their bodies, with white markings around the eyes. Their tails are long and often have a white tip. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Social Structure: Red-shanked doucs are social animals that live in groups, known as troops. These troops can consist of several individuals, including both males and females. They are typically led by an alpha male who plays a dominant role in the group. 🍃 Diet: They are primarily herbivorous, with their diet consisting of leaves, fruits, flowers, and sometimes insects. Their specialized stomach allows them to digest fibrous plant material efficiently. 🌳 Behavior: Red-shanked doucs are arboreal, spending most of their time in the treetops. They are known for their agility in moving through the trees. They are generally not very vocal, but they can communicate using various visual and vocal signals within their group. 🌍 Conservation Status: Red-shanked doucs are currently classified as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Their populations are threatened by habitat loss due to deforestation and illegal hunting for the pet trade. Conservation efforts are in place to protect their habitats and prevent their illegal trade. 👶 Reproduction: Breeding in red-shanked doucs typically occurs between November and April. After a gestation period of around six months, females give birth to a single offspring. The young are cared for by the mother and other group members, and they are weaned at about one year of age. ===== 🗓️ Filmed: October 2023 📸 Camera Gear Sony a7IV: https://amzn.to/45Wlaom Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8mm GM II: https://amzn.to/3ZngxBk Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8mm GM II: https://amzn.to/46CNCM6 💬 Socials Instagram —   / wherejijigoes   TikTok —   / wherejijigoes   #vietnamtravel #danang #vietnam #wildlifephotography #endangeredspecies
