Written in 1962, this song is one of the many such priceless songs written by Kavi Pradeep who used the power of words, added strong emotions and wrote lines that put the British in trouble, and even long after being written, they still evoke patriotism, pride and even sadness in the new India.The man who filled the whole of India with tears, wanted to be a teacher Kavi Pradeep was born on 6 February 1915 as Ramchandra Dwivedi in Badnagar, Madhya Pradesh. His childhood was spent in a middle-class family in a town near Ujjain and he started showing interest in writing since his school days. He soon became a famous figure in the kavi sammelans in the town, even as a young boy and became popular by his pen name 'Pradeep'. By the time he graduated from Lucknow University in 1939, Pradeep had become a name that was known and respected by everyone in the poetry world. His poems, which were heavily inspired by the nationalist movement in the country, soon became popular and heard. Kavi Pradeep wanted to become a teacher and had even done a course for it, but destiny had something else in store for him. He was called to Bombay for a kavi sammelan, where Himanshu Rai, the owner of Bombay Talkies, offered him to write a song for the film Kangan. The rest, as they say, is history. Kavi Pradeep wrote over 1700 songs and poems, most of which were not just songs of love for each other but raised important issues of patriotism, inequality as well as the importance of India's history and culture. From Aao Bachchon Tumhein Dikhaye to Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon, his songs are still regarded as the most patriotic songs of all time, and he is one of the most respected patriotic lyricists during the Indian freedom struggle. Kavi Pradeep wrote the song 'Chal Chal Re Naujawan' for the film 'Bandhan' in 1940. It was promoted as the song of the Indian freedom struggle at the time. The song was a clarion call for the youth of the country to march ahead despite all the fatigue and challenges. It is often considered one of the earliest songs that established Kavi Pradeep as a lyricist who looked beyond the love of a man and a woman and used his pen to ignite the fire of patriotism in the youth. 'Aaj Himalaya Ki Choti Se Phir Humne Lalkara Hai, Door Hatao Ae Duniyawalon Hindustan Hamara Hai' In the 1990s, India's freedom struggle was at its peak and that's when this song came for the film 'Kismet'. Written in 1943, this song instantly found a place in the hearts of freedom fighters and seeing its impact, the British issued arrest warrants against poet Pradeep and composer Anil Biswas. This song threatening the British created a stir in the entire country. 'Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon, Zara Aankh Mein Bhar Lo Paani; 'Jo Shaheed Hue Hain Unki, Zara Yaad Karo Qurbani' The year was 1962 and every Indian was saddened by the defeat in the Indo-China war. Emotions were strong and anger was at its peak. Kavi Pradeep wrote these lines shortly after India's defeat in the war, remembering the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country and reminding the countrymen to unite once again in the spirit of nationalism. This song, which stirred the heart of almost every Indian, restored the pride of the nation and is believed to have moved even the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who heard it for the first time at an event organized to raise funds for war widows. Interestingly, Kavi Pradeep came up with this song while he was strolling on the beach. He immediately borrowed a pen and took out a foil from a cigarette packet and wrote these first few words on it. This song is still hummed and sung on every Republic Day and Independence Day, it is the song that still reminds India what it took to get this country independent and how many people lost their lives to save the country and its people. Kavi Pradeep died on 11 December 1998. He was honoured with many awards and honours. He was also made the Rashtrakavi, after which he started being honoured with the name Kavi Pradeep. He was honoured with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1961, BFJA Award in 1975 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in the year 1997 for his outstanding work.
