ドミニカ共和国には何がある?あまり知られていない日本人との歴史。首都サントドミンゴを現地駐在日本人に案内してもらい、世界遺産、食事、名産品を学びローカル体験をする(中米ぽんこつ旅編第4話)
👍 I'll wag my tail with joy if you subscribe, like, and give me hype! / @pokotabilife Hello, I'm Poko, a traveler who visits various places around the world and throughout Japan. This is the fourth installment of my Central American travel series, focusing on Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, faces the Caribbean Sea. I walked not only through the World Heritage Old Town, but also to the "current life" behind it. This video is for first-time visitors, and it introduces everything from exploring the Old Town, its history and local products, to cave spots and classic cuisine. In the second half, I'll show you how to spend an evening in a "colmad," a local area that's hard to experience as a tourist. Enjoying dominoes while getting food in a colmad is a truly Dominican Republic experience. I was able to enjoy such a local evening thanks to the Japanese people working there. The Dominican Republic has a history of accepting Japanese immigrants for agricultural development since 1956, after the war. Initially, the attractive conditions advertised attracted a flood of applicants, but what they were actually assigned was barren land near the border with Haiti. The land was unsuitable for agriculture, lacked sufficient infrastructure, and even denied ownership rights—a situation completely different from the recruitment guidelines. The Japanese government at the time seemed to be aware of this fact, but did not include it in the recruitment guidelines, resulting in the Dominican Republic immigration program becoming known as "the most tragic example of a failed national immigration policy." In 1961, the Japanese government acknowledged the failure, and a settlement was reached in 2006. I learned that the Japanese immigrants who endured such harsh experiences in the past, and the expatriates who have worked tirelessly to resolve issues in the region since the settlement, have shaped the current history between Japan and the Dominican Republic. This video will be helpful for anyone interested in the Dominican Republic, those who want to get a feel for the local atmosphere before traveling, those who want to see real Caribbean life, and those who prefer travel that emphasizes local experiences. 00:00 Opening 00:45 Basic Information about Santo Domingo 02:01 Walking through the World Heritage Old Town 03:44 Exploring the Culture and Local Products of the Old Town 07:06 Cave Lakes in Eastern Santo Domingo 08:24 Restaurant Information 12:16 The Hidden Side of the City and Japanese People in the Area #DominicanRepublic
