Narok County Government was formed by the County Governments Act under the New Constitution of 2010 in Kenya. It is one of the fastest-growing counties among the 47 devolved units. This Maasai land county was allocated number 033 under the Act. The distance between Narok County and Nairobi is 142 kilometers (88 miles) and it takes less than 3 hours to arrive by bus. The major community that dwells in the county is the Maasai Community and they practice Livestock rearing, maize growing, and wheat growing as the major agricultural practice. We also have other communities that have moved in to stay in the county especially near the town of Narok thus making it a cosmopolitan county. The road infrastructure and housing have really advanced in the county and at some point, it was named the number 3 best-performing county by Business Daily in Kenya. One of the major touristic sites you can find in Narok is the Maasai Mara Game Reserve which is widely known for the Big Five animals in Kenya. The Big five animals you can find in the Maasai Mara include, the lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and African buffalo. Narok County has its headquarters in Narok Town, off Narok Nakuru Road and it comprises six (6) sub-counties namely: Narok North, Narok West, Narok East, Narok South, Transmara East, and Transmara West. The County shares an economic block with Kajiado County known as the Narok Kajiado Economic Block.
