The SIX YEAR journey to create my dream game in Unity! | Farewell North - Indie Devlog #8

In this video we'll go through the six year journey I took before finally creating Farewell North, my dream indie game! In 2014 I was working on a mobile 2D platformer which would eventually lead me to create Farewell North some six years later. I'll explain how I went from writing C++, Objective-C and Java code all for a single game, along with a custom physics implementation, to finally learning Unity and honing my solo gamedev skills. Along the way I learned a ton of lessons, not to mention technical skills such as Blender, so we'll look at several of the projects I worked on along the way, and the story of how Farewell North finally came to be as a result of of everything I learned. Throughout those six years I built several games, from Android and iOS mobile games, to a large scale turn based strategy. Some of the game ideas were good, some not so much, but none of them really came to fruition because I wasn't ready at the time. Either I lacked the technical skills, such as developing shaders or 3D modelling and animation, or the game started on a rocky foundation. Whatever the case, none of those projects were quite right. Moving to Scotland this year was a big influence on what would become Farewell North, as was my silly chihuahua who always needs to find the comfiest seat in the house. Both of these ideas, plus a 2014 game that I never released, would finally come together in 2020 to result in Farewell North. I hope you enjoy the video, let me know what you think of my journey and share your ownin the comments. Don't forget to like, subscribe and of course, wishlist the game on Steam! You play as a collie working alongside your human companion to explore, solve puzzles, evade monsters, and restore color to the islands. #devlog #gaming #videogames #indiedev #indiegame #gamedev #unity #unity3d #madewithunity #steam #steamgame #journey
