We Underestimated Hong Kong

We thought we were prepared for Hong Kong. Before arriving, we researched restaurants, museums, hikes, ferry routes, viewpoints and more. Like many first-time visitors, we arrived with a long list and a solid plan. Hong Kong had other ideas. Over five days, we learned that the city moves faster than expected, distances are longer than they look on a map, and even simple things like language, payment apps and getting around can be very different from what you imagine before arriving. In this video, we share the things we would do differently on our first trip to Hong Kong – with a few mistakes, a few surprises, and one hike that accidentally became the perfect introduction to the city. 📍 Places featured: Victoria Peak & Peak Circle Walk Central Hong Kong MTR Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong Victoria Harbour Star Ferry This video is part of our East Asia journey: 🇰🇷 Seoul → 🇭🇰 Hong Kong → 🇨🇳 Shenzhen Next up: Shenzhen – a city we knew even less about. 00:00 We Made a Mistake on Day One 00:25 We Thought We Were Prepared 00:32 The Problem with Our Hong Kong Plan 01:08 Hong Kong Moves Faster Than We Do 01:40 Our Failed Chinese Language Skills 02:07 The AliPay Experiment 02:42 Walking Up Victoria Peak 03:51 Afternoon Tea at the Mandarin Oriental 04:40 What We Got Wrong About Hong Kong 06:07 Next Stop: Shenzhen Some supplementary footage is used to illustrate moments we were unable to film while travelling. #HongKong #HongKongTravel #FirstTimeInHongKong #TravelCouple #VictoriaPeak #HongKongMTR #HongKongVlog
