1974 October - Enfield NSWRTM Steam Extravaganza

The Lost films. Bert Scales Rail Archive. Cine Film transferred to HD via Storm Video Gladesville. In the mid 1990s this film was believed to have been lost. In a recent clear out of 'empty' film reels in an unopened box, this film was discovered. This is the first time this film has been shared publicly. This film contains the final NSWRTM Steam Extravaganza over the weekend of 26/27 October. Celebrations included the operation of live steam passenger carrying models at Enfield, and heavy rail steam return trips to Sydney Terminal. Saturday 26 October was planned for 3203 hauling 4 x return Sydney Terminal trains, though with demand so strong, additional cars were obtained for the original rostered set, with 3801 hauling 4 x round trips. 3203 provided an additional 2 x services with an supplementary set of cars. Sunday 27 October saw the biggest draw card of trains with 4 x round trips hauled by 5910, 2 x trips lead by 3801 and further trains lead by 3526 which we see at the end of this film. Unfortunately there is no film of the final train, a double header of 3526 and 3203. In all 12567 tickets were sold for the weekend to support the end of steam at Enfield and the relocation of NSWRTM to Thirlmere. Do enjoy this historical film of the NSWRTMs history. A very rare capture indeed.
