Zarówno wspólnoty wschodnie, jak i północnoafrykańskie, dzięki kontaktom handlowym i kulturalnym z Hiszpanią, wciąż wzbogacały o nowe elementy zbiory pieśni i romansów poznanych przed diasporą. Romancero zawsze był żywy i obecny w cyklu życia Sefardyjczyków. Wykorzystywano ją do wypełnienia czasu wolnego, jako dodatek do prac domowych, a także jako urozmaicenie przyjęć i zabaw.
