Der Neusiedlersee - Nirgendwo ist mehr Himmel, Österreich/Ungarn | Schätze der Welt
From the shore, you usually don't see it at all: Fertö-tó, as it's called in Hungary. One-third of Lake Neusiedl's surface area is covered with reeds up to three meters high. Lake Neusiedl is the third-largest lake in Central Europe. Geologically, it marks the border with Eastern Europe. The lake basin measures 320 square kilometers, but the lake itself only covers about 230 square kilometers and is only one and a half meters deep. The water level is primarily determined by rain and snow. Special features of the surrounding area include the lakes in the Seewinkel region, small ponds and pools that are not connected to the lake itself. A paradise for animals, it has largely been left to itself as a nature park since 1992. Many peoples have left their mark in Pannonia, as the region is also called. ------- #schaetzederwelt #neusiedlersee #austria #hungary #unesco ------- Click here for the "Treasures of the World" playlist: https://bit.ly/schaetze_der_welt_play... Pannonia is a steppe land with extremely hot summers and bitterly cold winters, located in the rain shadow of the Alps and at the beginning of the Hungarian Plain. Since the 16th century, the Esterházy family has shaped the history of Lake Neusiedl. Prince Nikolaus von Esterházy brought Joseph Haydn to Eisenstadt as Kapellmeister. Loyalty to the House of Habsburg, as well as skill in politics and on the battlefield, earned the Esterházys one of the greatest fortunes in Europe. In 1956, during the Hungarian uprising, the area around Lake Neusiedl was briefly in the spotlight of world history. Many thousands of people fled to Austria via the Einser Canal. Similar events then repeated themselves in the late summer of 1989. This time, it was vacationers from the GDR who used the border there to seek their fortunes in the West. UNESCO has protected the world's most valuable natural and cultural monuments as "Heritage of Humanity" since 1972. The television series "Treasures of the World" tells of these places in striking images. © Licensed by Telepool ------- High-quality documentaries on science, society, history, and wildlife: wocomoDEUTSCH provides access to reliable and high-quality information sources in German.
