This film presents a folktale related to plants in graphic novel form. (F-17) Okinawan Gardens That Remain Today Okinawan gardens, with their coral limestone layers and subtropical plants such as cycads and Garcinia subelliptica, have a different character from Japanese gardens. The restored Shuri Royal Palace and the gardens of samurai residences on remote islands that escaped war evoke the past of the Ryukyu Kingdom. (F-18) Miyako Jofu: A Linen Artwork Miyako Jofu, made from ramie (choma) cultivated in the Miyako and Yaeyama regions, is meticulously dyed with locally produced mud indigo and knotweed indigo, and woven with advanced techniques, boasts a 400-year tradition. (F-19) Bingata: A Shining Dyeing Craft Bingata is one of Japan's representative dyed textiles, alongside Kyo-Yuzen, Kaga-Yuzen, and Edo-Komon. This dyeing craft developed under the orders of the Ryukyu Kingdom, with its use permitted only to the nobility. (F-20) The Fight Against Pests: Fruit Fly Eradication Operation Alongside natural disasters such as typhoons and droughts, pests have plagued rural communities. Eradicating the Oriental fruit fly and the melon fly is a major challenge.
