The Yakumo Limited Express, operated by the 273 series, connects Okayama Station and Izumo-shi Station. This Yakumo is reasonably fast, running once per hour as an Inyo connecting express train. However, because the section north of Bitchu-Takahashi is mostly single-track, travel times vary greatly depending on the train. If you take the slowest train, Yakumo 17, departing Okayama Station at 3:30 PM, it will take an incredibly long time. And the Nozomi bound for Tokyo, which also frequently arrives here in Okayama, is incredibly fast, allowing you to travel to far-away Tokyo in an instant. So, even though the distances between Okayama and Izumo and Okayama and Tokyo are clearly different, if we were to compare the slowest Yakumo against the Shinkansen Nozomi, it might be possible for the Shinkansen Nozomi to reach Tokyo before Yakumo 17 arrives in Izumo...
