Using Biomarkers for Precision to CV Medicine, Prevention and Population Health (James de Lemos, MD)

This grand rounds presentation evaluates pitfalls in the hoped-for transition to precision medicine in cardiology, and potential steps to move towards these lofty goals. Objectives: 1. Evaluate the strengths and limitations of currently available cardiovascular risk assessment approaches and biomarkers, including c-reactive protein, troponins, and natriuretic peptides, for risk assessment and therapeutic guidance in cardiovascular pre 2. Appropriately use actuarial risk assessment for specific cardiovascular outcomes to help guide decisions for CVD prevention and treatment. 3. Incorporate risk assessment to enhance population health efforts regarding cardiovascular prevention.
